About us

The Institute Green IT brings together the expertise from physics and electrical engineering situated in Aachen and Jülich with the aim to develop novel energy-efficient electronic nanometer-scale devices.

Profile

The research activities of Prof. Detlev Grützmacher are based on his competence in semiconductor heterostructure and nanostructure design. He advances semiconductor technology towards its ultimate performance and develop devices with new functionalities. Within the Institute he develops and fabricates devices with ultra-low power consumption and explores new routes to integrate transistor technology with novel memory concepts.
Prof. Matthias Wuttig and Prof. Rainer Waser work on concepts for highly energy-efficient resistive switching (“memristive”) devices. They contribute with their expertise on phase change materials and redox-based transition metal oxides to the effort to develop fast and highly-scalable non-volatile switches - offering a functionality which is currently not available in semiconductor chips. They to provide the fundaments for future non-von Neumann field-programmable architectures based on memristive crossbar arrays.
Prof. Tobias Noll is involved in developing semiconductor-based architectural strategies for high-throughput digital signal processing, circuit concepts, and design methodologies, with a focus on energy-efficient circuits. He contributes to the development of highly-integrated, massively-parallel architectures based on the nanoelectronic device concepts implemented in the Institute. He also places emphasis on the issue of reliability and take a step forward to a fault-tolerant design.
