Research on various protein misfolding diseases

About

The focus of our research is on the one hand to elucidate the molecular and cellular disease mechanisms of various protein misfolding diseases, with a focus on Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. To this end, we use a diverse repertoire, ranging from biochemical and cellular methods to in vivo studies. Here we can draw on a wide range of different methods, including histological analyses. The aim of this basical research is to understand which pathological changes could be the cause of a disease and how this could be utilized to possibly develop a new target for a therapy. On the other hand, the focus of the working group is on the development of a causally effective therapy against type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is funded by a grant of the BMBF (title: Development of drug candidates for a causal therapy of type 2 diabetes mellitus).
